SPORTS PERSONALITIES 2020

Every year the University of Antwerp hosts the Panathlon Antwerp & PCU Antwerp Sports Personalities. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s event will be held online.


WHO WILL BE AWARDED ‘ELITE ATHLETE OF THE YEARS 2020’?

The PCU Antwerp Sports Personality 2020 award, also known as the Honorary Rector Francis baron Van Loon Award, will be handed out to one of these three nominated elite athletes who study at the University of Antwerp:

Laura Luyten – 21 years old

Master/Bachelor Law
Equestrian – Dressage
Highlights:

  • Belgian Championship Dressage Young Riders: 1st place (2020)
  • European Championship Dressage Young Riders – Teams: 4th place (2020)
  • European Championship Dressage Young Riders – Individual: 13th place (2019)
  • European Championship Dressage Young Riders – Teams: 4th place (2019)
  • European Championship Dressage Young Riders – Individual: 18th place (2019)
  • Belgian Championship Dressage Young Riders: 4th place (2019)
  • World Championship selection Young dressage horses (2018)
Lien Meeuwssen – 20 years old

Bachelor Physiotherapy

  • World Cup: 2nd place European Open Warsaw (2020)
  • International Tournament: 2nd place International Belgian adidas Judo Open Herstal (2020)
  • International Tournament: 2nd place Dutch open Espoir U21 Eindhoven (2020)
  • Belgian Championship U21: 1st place (2020)
  • European Championship selection 2020: Judo Flanders didn’t compete due to COVID-19
  • Belgian Championship U21: 2nd place (2019)
  • International Tournament: 3th place Tournoi Label Excellence De Wasquehal (2019)
  • Belgian Championship U21: 3th place (2018)
Steven Pattyn – 20 years old

  • Arden Challenge 2nd ride Sainte-Marie-Sur-Semois: 1st place (2020)
  • Became part of the national selection of high potentials since 2019
  • 3th ride Ronde van Namen: 1st place (2019)
  • Oberösterreich Rundfahrt: 1st place (2018)
  • Trofeo Emilio Paganessi: 2nd place (2018)
  • La Route des Géants: 2nd place (2018)
  • Selected for World Championship Juniors Innsbruck 2018

All students of the University of Antwerp can vote for their favorite and help decide which elite athlete student wins the PCU Antwerp Sports Personality 2020 award. Cast your vote on this page. PANATHLON ANTWERP SPORTS PERSONALITY 2020

The second award, The Panathlon Antwerp Sports Personality 2020 award, goes to Prof. Dr. Alain Verschoren, honorary rector of the University of Antwerp. He receives this award posthumously for the great contributions he has made to the student sports in Antwerp.
